Road Trip Survival Guide

Over the next several weeks, I intend to publish a series of articles to create a Road Trip Survival Guide. These articles will go into some detail about pragmatic issues you may have to contend with if you embark on some long-term budget travel on the road.

NEW! – Don’t have time to read the survival guide? Watch it on YouTube instead!

Scope & Perspective

Road Trip Survival Guide

This survival guide is not going to be comprehensive. It can’t be. There are too many ways to travel and there’s no way to stuff that much information into one article. Also… I don’t know everything!!

Nor should it be comprehensive. If you’re on this website looking for information, I assume you’re looking for something other than the traditional American vacation – a flight and a hotel room. If that’s what you want, there are other websites that can guide novices through air travel and how to book a hotel room.

In general, I will address each topic from the perspective of a long-term budget traveler. I’ll be offering tips for people who want to travel as cheap as possible, have very little money to start with, and are looking for an experience that’s different from the same-old.

Of course, even among people with the common goal of long-term budget travel – everyone’s needs will be a little different. What works for me might not work for you. How you approach travel will depend on where you’re going, how long you’re going to be traveling for, and what you have to start with. I will do my best to cover a reasonably-wide range of ideas. But if what I’m proposing doesn’t work for your specific circumstances, feel free to contact me and ask for specific advice. If I have an answer, I will share it. If I don’t have an answer for you, I will say so.
